What we need to remember here is the fact that these cars are getting on for 14 years old and were never designed for our conditions (especially our winter road grit which is laden with salt!)  If previous owners had taken precautions then the problems we see wouldn't be so bad.  We only have ourselves to blame!

Hiya Tracey & Welcome, I'm about to take my Cappo off the road and start stripping her to check for rust. Due to a seal problem in the roof I have been getting a lot of water in her and have noticed some rust at the back of the seats...ouch! . She's being re-sprayed next spring. I've bought all new wings for her ready for then.....can't wait! Yes I work part time for the NHS on bank staff...admin not nursing so I know what the salary/conditions are like.

"Hello World"

My name is Steven.  I'm a support engineer from Glasgow.

I've just bought a Cappuccino there as a crimbo present for my wife.  She still doesn't know yet so I'm looking forward to handing the keys over.

My Car is M plate, red and has been kept completely standard.  The previous owner has really taken care of it so I'm quite chuffed.

Looking forward to getting use of the forums, definately a handy tool so thankyou clubcappo.

Steven

Hi I'm Denise and I live in Surrey.

I'm currently on my second cappo, the first one, a very beautiful, lovingly owned one, cossetted during it's entire life, not a scratch or dent on it, and the paintwork was in excellent condition, 6 weeks later we fell foul of a Lithuanian idiot who was pretending to be a lorry driver, he pulled out on me on the M25.

I have since bought a replacement, not in such wonderful condition, but drives really well and currently we're up to 56,000 on the clock.

Have to say I love driving her so much I have been known to take the long way round.

Love the forum.  Do you ever organise any runs?

All the best, Denise

Welcome, Denise. Last year we went to a few shows and a run or two on the Cat and Fiddle. If you want to get one organised then just make a post and I'm sure we can all arrange something

Hiya Denise and welcome!

Not a good ending for such a wonderful car   But you are obviously OK so that's good!

Check out the Events and Meets section.  I've made a list of the shows etc that I've found so far.  If you know of any others or have any other suggestions for meets then please just post it up in there.

Hi Jaik & Andy

Not an end really, I bought her back from the insurance company and she's sitting on my drive.  I'm trying to find one of those round tuits to get her checked over and getting the parts priced up for the repair.  I'm on the lookout for an MOT failure or similar.

Testament to the car really me being alive.  I'll check out the events section and if I get any good idea's I'll let you know.

Nice to chat.

Denise

Hi and thankyou,

I do have another car, but then I play roadie to my two younger daughters and it's quite tough to fit two girls and their instruments into the cappo, and even tougher to do any shopping, so I leave that for my Toyota.  Which incidently I love driving too in a whole different way.

Hi Denise,

Welcome. I bought my Cappo last year after lusting since they were first introduced (Why did it take me so long!!) Yes shopping etc is a pain....but it just means I have to do a few trips instead of the one....oh what a burden! As I'm a childminder I also drive an MPV, but with saying that I have taken one of my minded children out in Minky and she thought she was ace...good taste

Welcome again and hope to see you on one of our jaunts this year.

Hi all,

It's about time to introduce myself, I registered quite a long time ago and am reading this forum on regular base because of DIY
So my name is Adelmar and live in the Netherlands. I bought a Cappo in July 2005 in the UK and imported it to the Netherlands myself.
It's a green Japanese spec. from 1993. There's about 46.000 miles on it, but since I found the miles/km switch I now read my speedometer in km (0-140)  . So now km's and miles are mixed up, but that's fine with me! I don't have to calculate anymore, pffff. And now my wife wants to drive it more often. Hmm, is that an advantage?!?

I like to keep the car in original state as much as possible, so no special wings, skirts or lambo doors unless it's contributing it's quality or life time. In spite of that there are some modifications:

  • Complete dinitrol (waxoil) treatment underneath and inner parts. That was just in time according to the mechanic!
  • Black Diamond rear disks
  • adjusted headlights for driving on the right side
  • K&N air filter
  • Cappuccino Sport timing belt
  • Infinity REF 6010CS  6-1/2" component speakers
  • Pioneer radio/cd player
  • non genuine back and fog light (to be replaced one day)
  • sport steering wheel
  • kmh-mph switch

If you have further questions, don't hesitate and ask. I will....

@ Andy, no problem!

@ Jaik,
Actually they are gold. A previous owner has done it. I have done some maintenance to the callipers and found out he must have had a lot of it because it's all over the calliper, including the rubbers  . Now they are clean again.

I am a new member from the United States. I have been building 4X4 rockcrawlers for about 15 years now and have recently acquired a 1998 Suzuki Carry mini truck, which I will explain more about in a moment. I imported the veihicle from Japan am now tranforming it into as far as I know the first and only "extreme" off-road vehicle of it's kind in the States.
I also have a small business called SOS (Suzuki Only Supply). We design and manufacture adapters that allow you to mate a 1.3L or 1.6L Suzuki engine to Toyota transmisions and transfer cases for extreme offroad use (much lower gearing is made possible, as well as being stronger and able to take much more abuse and alot more gearing options. Also we sell used parts for Jimny's and Vitara's, and build offroad vehicles that are Suzuki based.
I am also a sports car/performance enthusiast......I have owned a variety of "imports". These have included BMW 2002ti/Alfa Gulietta & 1750 Spyder/ Maserati 430/ Porsches/Jaguars/TVR Vixen/Lotus Europa and Elan/Hyundai Tuscani and currently have my dream car a 1987 Ferrari Testarossa!

These Cappucinos look very interesting, I may need to get one imported from Japan and truly be unique..........Hell, Testarossas are rare here, but a Capp would be amazing!!!

But here in lies the problem or should I say the reason for joining your forum........

As I stated, I am a new member from the United States......My reason for joining is to try to buy some engine parts for a 1998 660cc SOHC 12V engine that needs rebuilding.....because of a internally self destructing oil filter.
Parts for 660cc engines here in the States are near impossible to find and when you do they are very expensive.
I am wondering if you or any other members might be able to connect me with sources/suppliers of engine rebuild parts such as, rings/bearings/seals/gaskets/timing belt/water & oil pumps/etc.. Even a source for performance headers, clutches, etc..

I realize this is a Cappuccino BBS but I have run out of ideas.....
If you can help please email me directly at 16ltoy@msn.com

Thanks, Kerry

Hi!  I'm Lara (the user name may have been a give away...).  I don't actually own a Cappo - I'm still on my first car - an L reg Peugeot 106 named Lola.  My dad mentioned Cappo's in passing about 3 years ago, long before I even started driving, and after doing some research and drooling over pictures, I have developed a strong liking for them!

I'm possibly in the market for one - but since I'm still at school (Year 13) I don't quite have the finances...and my incurance company wouldn't touch me in a Cappo with a barge pole, so it seems a good idea to wait until I have a years no claims!

Any information anyone has on what to look out for and what not to buy would be greatly appreciated - so far I've got the jist of rear wheel arches+underside=rust = expensive!

Welcome Lara

Insurance at your age could well be a problem but not necessarily.  You may find that some companies are kinder than others.  The club's official insurer is Diamond Insurance Consultants (not to be confused with Diamond the sexist women only insurance company!) who may be able to find you a good deal.  Obviously a years no claims will perhaps look more favourable to a greater number of companies.

There is a 'Buyers Guide' on here giving some pointers on some of the Cappo pitfalls but as you have said the main enemy is rust.  Sadly this is not always visible so do be careful.

Drop me a PM if you would like to be added to the ClubCappo Member Map.  More details can be found here.

Last time I checked Diamond wouldn't insure me because of my age! Will check out the Diamond you recommened, though.  I'm curently with Direct Line, who are pretty good...still, better check.

If nobody minds, I'll report somewhere on here if somehting catches my eye.  It would be nice to read everyone's opinions!

Don't get the Diamond advertised on TV mixed up with 'Diamond Consultants' they're 2 very different companies!

The Cappo is only an group or two above a Mondeo 2.0 family saloon, so although certainly won't be that cheap as nowt is at your age/experience it also might not be that bad.
Similar insurance groups include the Honda Beat and the MX5 1.6.

If you've not got any no claims then maybe it's better to stay on or below grp7 ?

I did try one insurance company a while ago, and they quoted me £2800!  But then, I did still have my provisional.  I think I should be due to get a yearas no claims this summer...so long as I don't hit anything!  Diamond (the non-female orientated one) acutally phoned my yesterday to confirm the modle of my car: I was impressed!  I'd only filled in the form that afternoon!  Am waiting for a quote on the Peugeot, and if it is lower than my current one, I'll have a look for a Cappo.  Will check out ecar as well, Jaik. Ta.

I'm pretty sure they will.  I mean, if it is an affiliate of the Cappo Club, its got to be good!  Actually, just skimming the site they also insure SORN cars and classics...think I'm going to have to tell my dad and boyfriend about that!

My wife was on a provisional when she got the cappo with 0 no claims bonus, age 25. Was £950 from Adrian Flux.

Putting older, non-crashing family members on the policy will bring the cost down as well.
