I think my intial cast will probably end up a master mould      - more room for correecting errors later  and more room to play.

Can't wait!

Just out of interest, but when using carbon instead of glass, am I right in thinking it's the same resin, or is there a specially more clear version?

Usually people use epoxy when using the carbonfibre weave/cloth.

Don't worry, all will be revealled in a few weeks - if it works!

My first layer I think I'd not enough hardener in it    but making up for that yesterday I think I then used too much, lol.
Trial & error!

"Bucket Chemistry", don't you love it!

In the meantime - on with the How to

Don't be too worried if you get any FibreGlass on the Plastic Trims as it won't stick, but if you've covered over correctly, you won't have this problem.

The resin DOES   stick sometimes, at least to the bit I chose

Took me over an hour to get the mould off the altered original - I knew I should have started with something large and easy like the parcel shelf    .
Had to get a screw driver in there to prise it off.
It may need some repairing before the mould can be used.
The original part is not too happy now either    and needs a lot of cleaning up

Go to your local chemist and buy a 5mL syringe.  Very easy to use and very accurate.

I'm thinking the stuff I made the mold from should have maybe been a bit more pliable?

I've got a 1ml syringe now the rabbit is off medication today, but the hardner is a paste not a liquid and instructions are in cm's, lol.

hardner that's a paste? Wonder what that fibreglass is - I'm only used to seeing liquid catalyst.

The only stuff I could get in town was from Halfrauds, otherwise it means getting stuff off the net (which I'll have to do later anyhow) and messing about with deliveries, or using something like PlasticPadding which comes premixed with glass fibres in it.
Liquid resin in a tin bottle with a separate red paste in a small squeazable foil pack.

Interesting.......you say it 'Stuck' to the parcel shelf...??? or did you try to make one from the Fibreglass Shape, WITHOUT USING A RELEASE AGENT...??? lol... I haven't got to this bit yet.  , but will in due course........

When dry, flip over and mark out holes that will need to be cut later...easier to do this while still attached
DON'T worry about the small holes...you will not need these , just the Seat belt Holes...top for bolt and bottom long one....Don't worry about gaps on angles...you will not need these either.

...as you can see, the resin seeps through....but this will just fall off when you give it a nudge.....

I have just thought of an EASIER way to apply the 'Glass and Resin' to the Fiddly Bits.....I'll post pics later on.

1) Mix up resin and brush on as before.
2) cut Matting into very small pieces...chop it up...( you can buy it like this ) and would be perfect if I'd thought of it sooner...DOH !!!
3) Put pieces into container and pour Resin over and stir/mix until it's like a Paste.
4) Paint this onto fiddly bits and use Dabbing motion again to release Air Bubbles.
5) Add Matting to Large areas and when 'Tacky' but not wet, apply 2nd coat....

Cheers Sneaza.

The bit that stuck was not the parcel shelf, but something smaller    - to be releaved later if I can get it worked how I want it.

I masked up the holes like you said, but not sure if I used the wrong masking tape, but it stuck to the resin sort of and took some getting off - especially in the recesses.

The inside of my new mould is now in need of some reparing then cleaning up and smoothing out before it can be used as a mould.

- Base section GRP as per Sneazas making so far
- Top section  with porting fluted over and around the centre console tunnel.
- Speaker mount fits inside the top section around the hole for the main porting, probably GRP'd in place.
- Speaker driver then bolts to the mount.
- I presume as most speakers are designed to be in a box, then we also need a rear box section bolting on afterwards? Size/capacity of this is dependant on individual speaker specs.

- Maybe some nice hex head, or hex/star dome headed stainless cap bolts fixed on the otherside of the GRP into a strip of steel GRP'd in place to hold those rivet nut things to screw the cap heads into?

Okay...Not how I was imagining it.
I'm going to do it a little differently. My concern right now is what SIZE Sub were you thinking of installing...???, reason, 8"=200mm dia, with, according to CG's measurement, a 7 1/2" Basket....so basically need a space of 200mm square just to mount the Sub.
If you measure the Parcel Shelf you'll see there ain't going to be a lot of space....that said, I will work off the assumption it will be 8" and show you where and what I end up with.....

Now for Part 2....
There are 29 pics and words to follow, so once again, questions/comments at the end...ta.

After 2 layers, you should have summat like this...Front...

Now you Start to sand it down, again, not heavy, just to smooth out/off the small lumps. 80 grit and a block as before...no need to do the inside, just the front face, top....

...and back edge. With this done, I turned it all over and with a fine Marker, drew an outline around the shape...where I could reach, this gives you a 'Cut' line....

As you can see, just how smooth the Back is...because I Painted the Resin on 1st before applying the Matt. I didn't do this on my other enclosure and although the Resin seeps through, didn't come out this smooth.
If you look closely, you can see where the smooth line is ...above the Marker, this is where it will be finished to at the end but for now we cut off the excess to the BLACK LINE....
