Hi all... I'm a new member.  Peter From Melbourne Australia.  Was living in the Uk for a while and am now back here in Oz.  Had a Cappo over there as my daily car, it was the perfect car, racked up 50,000 Km (in one particularly keen year) including much work travel in the little machine

SO, i've bought another one here, and it has big plans in store for it, an engine conversion is in the works.  I'll be driving it as a daily driver for the time being, but it will hopefully be undergoing sergery in a year's time for a high power upgrade to a Renesis 13B.  Alot (Way too much) work to get it all done, so will probably take a year or more to complete it, but the first stages are under way.  I cant wait!!!  Will be my second engine trasplant vehicle...  this one will be a little insain, and hopfully still road legal.

Would love to hear from anyone who has done any engine conversion on a Beautiful little Cappo.

Cheers all,

Peter.

Hiya Peter and welcome.  Sounds like some pretty big plans you have!  It will be fun to see the results of your efforts as the project goes along.  Make sure you take plenty of pics for the album you will be creating.

sure thing.  Its a massive project, will be fully documenting it.  I'm currently modelling everying (Renesis engine/box and cappo enginbay/tunnel) in SolidWorks, to make sure everything will fit (and to design the engine mounts).

It'll be good fun to see it progress.  Alot of work to come though

Gday Peter, I'm in Melbourne too! It would be good to see your cappo project. I am doing a V6 conversion on the side in my LX hatch (torana).
The main things I could see causing headaches with an engine swap in a cappo would be space in the trans tunnel (at least it's rear wheel drive already!) upgrading the suspension/brakes and stiffening the shell for the extra power. Send us a pm if you feel like getting in touch.  Sean

Hiya Phil and welcome!

Wow what a first car it will be!  Wish my first car had been a Cappo and not a 1.1 Ford Fiesta!!

I think it will make a great first car.  Rear wheel drive cars make much more sense driving wise.  Rear wheels drive, front wheels steer!  Just watch out for the power and the back end stepping out.  Find your and the car limits safely and all will be well.

Great first car, just take it steady and get used to her. My first car was a Renault 5, then I went to a Peugeot 106 (that I still have) and finally got my Suki - you won't regret buying a Cappo, that's for sure!

Hi im Sam I have owned my lil Cap for 4 years now but have just had a lil dink in it and it looks like she will be written off!  I am obsolutely gutted, it would appear that I bought her from a less than scrupuless person who had resprayed the whole underside with paint.  Within weeks of buying her scratches started to appear then the rust, the whole car is a pile of rust!  Had plenty of welding done on her and she was due to for more work next month but now she is stuck in a garage lonely and unhappy!  Lets hope that I hear good news soon but we will see.

There is a cap for sale two streets from me in very good condition but I feel horrible going to see it before mine is totally put to sleep!

Very sad news indeed Sam

There are quite a few for sale on eBay at the moment but obviously you'd want to have it carefully inspected first.

Welcome by the way!

Poor Cap, very sorry to hear such sad news. Is she really so bad she can't be repaired and made happy again?

Hi there and welcome.

You certainly won't regret buying a Capp.  You simply can't beat it's smile per mile value.

15 inch wheels will fit is the 80 measurement 8J by the way.  If it is there is no way they will fit under the standard arches.  Wide arches are available so you could modify the car so they fit but, it won't be cheap.  The tyre to go for on 15 inch wheels is 195/45/15.

The usual problem with finding suitable wheels is getting the correct PDC which is 114.3 and a centre bore of 60.1mm.  PDC is vital whereas the centre bore isn't as you can get spigot rings to alter this to the correct size.  The originals offset is et45.  My new wheels have an offset of et38 which pushes them outwards so they clear suspension components.  It also means they fill the arches much more.

yes its 8j wide, so theres no chance of just putting them on without getting work done on them? and how much am i looking to spend to get them on the cap?

8j wheels are definitely going to protrude from under the standard arches.  My 5.5j wheels just manage to stay inside.  For an idea of the possible work and costs I'd suggest contacting Dany at CappuccinoSport (see links section)

The problem with them protruding is that they would almost certainly be illegal, in the UK at least this is true.  The need to roll arches comes from when the outside edge of the tyre catches the lip of the arch.  If the tyre is well past that position then you can imagine the damage that will happen when the tyre and the bodywork comes into contact.
